Ever since August of 2008, there has been a lot of drama going on in my life, where my circle of friends have really dwindled down into basically my friend Chris K. Starting about a week ago, this circle once again has started to build up, and I am so grateful for that.
Sunday - a group of friends/roommates and I went to the Spanish Fork Hot Springs. Previously, I had been to the hot pots by Highland, but...they are really muddy and gross. Yes, the hour hike from the car to the SFHS is pretty long, but it is quite beautiful with waterfalls and pools here and there. Also, it looks as if it is maintained (besides the algea). It started to snow whilst we were up there, which caused for a great experience. It was interesting to see the snow melt before it touched the water. Way awesome.
Tuesday - I got my hair-cut at Paul Mitchell by my friend Aubrey (those in Seattle need to look her up when she is there. She gives a wicked men's haircut). I really enjoy it and love the way that it turned out.
Wednesday - I went to the monthly game night with Chris, Casey, Kathryn and Lindsey. It was great fun, and I am glad that Kathryn M. and I are finally becoming close friends. She is an amazing jazz musician, which is always a plus. The ten finger game reveals a lot more then ever would be expected - maybe that is why it rocks.
Friday - the BYU Philharmonic gave the last concert of the year:
--Tannhäuser Overture - Wagner
--Violin Concerto No. 3 - Saint Saens (with guesy
artist Stacy Wetzel from the LA Phil)
--The Firebird Suite (1919) - Stravinsky
I am so glad that we had the opportunity to play this repertoire. It was awesome, and was performed well (minus the stupid trumpet and trombone cracks in important spots, but everyone makes mistakes). Of course, the Stravinsky was my favorite (though the Wagner always has a special place in my heart). Kudos to the bass drum. Just for the occasion, I dyed my hair red on the back where I have the mohawk thingy (yes, it is still conservative because of the BYU Honor Code). It is way sweet. Most everyone knew that it was in reference to the firebird. After the concert, I went over to Kathryn's house and went to an amazing party. One of the best, if not the best, I have ever been to. It was a blast.

Saturday - Chris, Mo, Nathan and I went to the Festival of Colours down in Springville. Of course, everyone and their dog was there (mostly consisting of BYU people who only wanted to be there so they could update their Facebook with the cool colour picture of themselves...I will refrain from posting it on there for a while). We went to have a fun time, to be together as friends and to experience the once in a lifetime thing. I say that it is once in a lifetime because it is rather crazy. 10,000 people were expected to be there in attendance and traffic was horrendous. We were at the Hare Krishna temple for about 2 hours, but we were in the car for about 4 or 5 total. Worth it? Once. It calls for some good memories of stained clothes and purple buggers... :)
- After that, Chris, Mo, Casey and I went to Holladay to a 'friend's' party. I did and still do not really know the host. There were many people there and it was rather...annoying. That is alright. The host was trashed, as was most everyone there. I preferred Kathryn's party. We ended up leaving after everyone had left because Chris was 'detained,' but I am lucky I was able to drive home everyone safely at 5 in the morning. Do not ask me how I accomplished that.
School is almost over, and I could not be happier. I am in need for that week break between semesters. I guess it could be considered Spring Break. April 22 - April 27?? Hmm... maybe BYU is just weird. I am going with Chris K. to NEW YORK to visit my sister, her new baby, have a lesson with Paul Neubauer, see Blithe Spirit starring Angela Lansbruy and Christine Ebersole and to just chill and have a nice break from CONSERVTIVE Utah. Everyone needs breaks I would say.
I was accepted to be the only violist for the College Light Opera Company. Should be fun?! Hopefully. We shall see. Even if it sucks/it is bad quality, I will still have fun. Just look at last year at SOAP - Amazing people, wonderful Teng Li, and a crappy camp. Canada was pretty sweet.
My sister, Krista, just won the Southwest Regional Tournament for Handball. She goes to Nationals in Arizona next week. She amazes me truly, madly and deeply.
I was reading Casey W.'s April 2009 Cosmopolitan - there is a lot of advice that is really great:
Some things that you should never apologize for:
Someone else's bad day - A friend snap's at you and you are expected to say sorry? How does this work? I have a lot of experience of this with Desi B...
Investing in your looks - It's about feeling confident with yourself, not about doing yourself up to please other people - I am a firm believer in this. this is partially why I hate Utah Fashion so much. People dress up in what they see others wear because it is the cool thing to do...not because they think that they look good in it. That is why I love Gina R. and Emily O. fashion. It is them...unique, classy and poignant.
Changing your mind - you are allowed to have opinions, then have them change... it is ALRIGHT!
Sticking to a budget - if you do not have the money, you do not have the money. Tell people that you cannot afford to do something. Do not rationalize or think I need that...just stick to the budget. There is always something that you want, but sometimes, things down the road are more important then the latest trend or the new movie on DVD.
Being happy - as I like to say, "Everything happens in life for a reason. It is the way you take it and the attitude you live which makes you the person you are."
Ciao for now.
